How to Run for the Board: Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible to run for the Northwest Neighborhoods CDC Board?

Northwest Neighborhoods CDC's service area is bounded by West 45th Street on the east, West 117th Street on the west, Lake Erie on the north and Interstate 90 on the south (property on both sides of West 45th and the east side of West 117th Streets is within the Corporation’s service area). The following are the categories of elected board membership:

  • Residential members residing in the service area. Residential board members consist of three members living in each of five geographic zones [see map].

  • Institutional members representing a nonprofit organization or place of worship located in the service area; and

  • Commercial members representing a for-profit business located in the service area.

Each year there is one Residential board seat open in each of the five geographic zones and either one or two Institutional/Commercial board seats open. All board positions are voted on by all members of the CDC.

How do I run?

Board elections take place at the Northwest Neighborhoods Annual Meeting in late February and are voted on by the public membership of the CDC.

To run for the Board of Directors, at least 90 days prior to the Annual Meeting, update your membership and notify the Board President. Along with the notification, send a brief bio or statement of qualifications.

The upcoming deadline to declare intent to run for the board is Friday, December 1, 2023. Please email your information to Anna Perlmutter, Board President and await a confirmation message of receipt.

Before the election, candidates will submit a final draft of their bio and photo (if desired) to appear on election materials available to voting membership of the organization.

Candidates may wish to campaign by word of mouth, attending block club meetings, and participating in neighborhood events. Expenditures on printed materials and advertising are highly discouraged because these activities give an unfair advantage to better resourced candidates.

What does board service entail?

Board members are elected to a three-year term. During their term, they are expected to attend board meetings which take place every two months and participate in at least one board committee. For more detail on board service, see the Board Service Agreement or contact Anna Perlmutter, Board President, with questions.
